Ahhh, good ol’ Michael Bay… Enough action and explosions to drown any normal person. Maybe all the negative reviews and lack of personal build up contributed, but I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. Even with all the inconsistencies and plot changes (not only from the original series, but from the first movie too), I still found myself enjoying it. My full review will be up after the break…

Question: What do you get when you mix that crappy “rendered-animation” style, The Land Before Time, Steve Irwin, and a story line that is more tired than my grandma after running a 36 hour triathlon?
Answer: Ice Age 3…

If you are planning on going to this movie anyway, maybe to take your kids to it, then don’t forget to bring the wrist-ready-razor-blades for yourself! Don’t expect this movie to give you the ole’ Shrek style of adult humour that should be laid beneath the surface of every animated movie, for the adult folks to pick up on. Hit the jump for the full review of the latest trilogy that should have remained a not-trilogy…

NERD ALERT: VLC 1.0.0 released…

Tuesday July 7th, 2009 in Sweet Links | No comments »

So call me a nerd thats fine, but one thing all nerds know is that VLC is the best video player… Now a days there are more codec’s than people on the planet that can prevent the average user from viewing their illegally downloaded movies compressed videos. VLC doesn’t use the system codecs to view the movie, instead it comes with its own package of codecs and attempts to view the video … with an amazingly high success rate too!

Anyway, today is the release of v1.0.0 of the program. If you havn’t tried it out yet, you may want to give it a shot… here are some of the key features for the first official non-beta release:

  • Independant of systems codecs to support most video types
  • Instant pausing and Frame-by-Frame support
  • Finer speed controls
  • New HD codecs (AES3, Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, Blu-Ray Linear PCM, Real Video 3.0 and 4.0, …)
  • New formats (Raw Dirac, M2TS, …) and major improvements in many formats…
  • New Dirac encoder and MP3 fixed-point encoder

The stuff of my nightmares: Superbot

Am I the only one that is aware of the future? Am I the only one that is stock piling weapons and amunition in my desk for the coming robot-apocolypse?! Seriously I dont think im getting through to anyone else!

Such self-configuring robots have existed in the world of academic labs for some years now. Last year, a research group at the University of Pennsylvania caught attention with their walking modular robot that slowly reassembled itself after being kicked apart.

Several U.S. military branches and government agencies besides NASA have also shown interest in the idea of shape-shifting, self-repairing robots.

umm… excuse me while I go change my pants.

Crazy Impressive: YoYo

So for my first blog post on the new engine, I had to get something really great. No trouble with that… After being on holidays for a week, there are plenty of sites and links that need to be posted. This is a video of some dude just giving it his all with his yo-yo. His skills makes up for his music selection though…
