Holy Sadistically Powered Light Source, Batman! Blood Lamp!

Monday September 28th, 2009 in Sweet Links | No comments »

Blood_Lamp4

Are you wondering which invention this year is going to win the most sadistic design award? Look no further than the blood lamp. It can only be used once, and forces the individual to cut themselves in order for it to work. Great excuse for all those EMO kids out there now. The lamp’s creater claims he invented it to create an awareness of power usage, but we all know he’s just a little creepier than that. Video and a few more pictures after the break.

A Glorious Dawn = A Glorious Video

Monday September 28th, 2009 in Sweet Links | No comments »

We’ve all seen some of the Auto-tune videos that have surfaced in the last 6 months on the internet, but this one caught my eye. Instead of auto-tuning the news this time, they’ve auto-tuned a science video from the 70’s. Man they were so naive back then… but Hawking was still in a chair! Hmm… I wonder if his chair has the auto-tune built into it? The video took a couple watchings to catch all the lyrics so you may need to do the same.

The best line is: “if you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe”. I love pie.

sydney dust storm

Apparently there is some breaking news that needs to be posted: Sydney Australia was struck by a massive red dust storm… or …a giant multi-govn’t conspiracy has actually transported the entire city to the surface of Mars! ZAAAP! The pictures do look like the surface of Mars in Total Recall. I call Shenanigans! There are tweets and flickrs being posted almost as fast as we were onto the conspiracy too… Here is just one flickr gallery that is getting quite a bit of attention. Worth a quick look, or maybe more?!

Thanks to Tom for the near instant NewsTip.

EPIC PHAIL! Wendy’s Spoon found in lung…

Tuesday September 22nd, 2009 in Sweet Links | 1 Comment »

sniffing wendys

Wow… this dude is just so full of fail I can’t even begin to tell you. Read the excerpt:

The Wilmington, North Carolina, resident had surgery last week to remove part of a plastic spoon from his lung. And it wasn’t just any old plastic spoon; it came from the fast-food chain Wendy’s, with the restaurant logo clearly visible on the handle.

I’ve heard of inhaling your food, rhetorically… but literally? Slow down there tiger! The best part is that he didn’t even know what was bothering him. HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW!? One second you’re eating your delicious frosty with a spoon, the next minute, the spoon is gone! And you didn’t think that maybe the pain in your chest immediately following the vanishing of your spoon could possibly be related? Idiot.

Thanks to Vivi for the NewsTip.

Another Chess Set, This time it’s ready for zombies

Tuesday September 22nd, 2009 in Sweet Links | No comments »

zombiechess

Marchingdog.com has been set up to sell this extravagant set of chess pieces… no word on what the chess board looks like. I hope it looked like a decimated village, top down view! They label the set as the Monster Vs. Hunter set, but we all know they mean Zombie Vs. Villager. $400 seems like a lot of cash for a single chess set, but this one in all its badassery is totally worth the price of admittance, unlike the last chess set we featured. Oh and check out the close up picture of the villager queen piece, Yummy.

My Not-Yet-World-Famous Anolini/Annalini

Sunday September 20th, 2009 in Facebook, Food, Real World | 2 Comments »

DSC03641

While I was growing up, every Christmas our family would enjoy a large family gathering and an Italian dish called Anolini. When I decided I would make some to quench my 5 year long craving I ran into a few problems. First I couldn’t spell Anolini or Annalini or whatever (…Gah! I’ve made my point!) so trying to locate a recipe online proved to be more difficult than you would first think! And second I couldn’t get the recipe from my Aunt who used to make the dish, because she’s currently in Italy. How ironic. Sorta. I also had a bit of a hunch that maybe the name that has been assigned to it within my family, may not be the official name… which may have also lead to the difficulty in locating anything online to help me out. Rather than be beaten by old memories and lack of contact with those who count, I’ve gone ahead and made a recipe out of a few others with the help of my Father (thanks dad!). My hope is that by now posting it online, other people can locate a good Anolini recipe. After the short break there will be a full recipe with pictures of my progress in trying to make my favourite past-time Italian Christmas dish.

Student cuts down theif with sword! (+5 to awesome)

Wednesday September 16th, 2009 in Sweet Links | No comments »

samurai

In likely the most bad-ass story of the week, there is a student in Baltimore who had been given the chance to kill an intruder– WITH A SWORD! Not just any sword either, but a full on razor sharp, samurai sword.

Hours earlier, someone had broken into John Pontolillo’s house and taken two laptops and a video-game console. Now it was past midnight, and he heard noises coming from the garage out back. The Johns Hopkins University undergraduate didn’t run. He didn’t call the police. He grabbed his samurai sword.

Props dude… you show him who’s boss! Best of luck with the criminal system now.

fblike_fail1

I’m starting to get the feeling that some of these facebook fail screencaps are staged or photoshoped because of the sheer quantity of them… But these four made me chuckle after reading a hundred thousand others. Hit the jump for all of them. If you really like these, you could head over to http://www.lamebook.com/ and get hours of fun out of thier material.

Coffee Table that will get you all the ladies!

Wednesday September 16th, 2009 in Sweet Links | No comments »

NESTable7

I promise that if you successfully win this Ebay Auction that you’ll have all the ladies bending over backwards for you… har har! Not because its an original NES Controller coffee table, but because you have waaaay too much money! Hope you don’t mind the gold diggers. Gotta admit its a pretty sweet tribute table to one of the most influential input peripherals of all time though. Too bad it would only be shipping to the U.K. and sold for £300.00. All the pictures I could find are posted after the break, including a link back to the EbayUK auction.

Thanks to Bill for the NewsTip!
