Whiteout is set in Antarctica, where U.S. Marshall Carrie Stetco is the only law enforcement stationed and takes place just a few days before the Antarctic Winter will begin. She’s looking forward to going somewhere warm, when Antarctica’s first murder is uncovered. Hit the jump in order to read my full review…

Video Mapped Projections Can Really Get the Party Started!

Tuesday September 15th, 2009 in Sweet Links | No comments »

Projected onto the side of my house, Video Mapped Projections can really make the building look like its doing anything. It’s just so vibrant… no wonder I couldn’t sleep last week! Damn hooligans! The video is kinda lengthy, but I didn’t even realize that it was as long as it was until it was nearly done. Which speaks well to it. Check it out…

Life Sized Papercraft best I’ve ever not stolen! … YET. Link

This is hands down the best papercraft I’ve ever seen, and not stolen or attempted to make myself! Ask anyone I work with and they’ll tell you I like papercraft. I even have a papercraft ceiling cat at my desk that watches me “work” all day. But unlike most papercraft sets I’ve seen, with full instructions, this is certainly not one I could attempt. Hit the jump for the full gallery and a link back to the sets which has all the videos of how the creator has put it together. Be warned, its mind blowingly complex! I do however have one question: why wouldn’t he make a Zelda or Zora instead of a Link? Anyone?…

If legit, should be richer than he is: Derren Brown

Monday September 14th, 2009 in Sweet Links | No comments »

Since last week there have been video’s floating all around the net of Derren Brown and how he accurately guessed the lotto numbers of the week. The video above is the actual original live broadcast of the trick. After the jump are a few explanation videos of how he pulled it off… but before you watch them give it a few minutes and see if you can figure out how he’s done it. Remember that he did start his career as a magician, and most of magician’s methods involve distraction and directing the viewer into false assumptions.

Kanye “McDoucherson” West… MTV Awards

Monday September 14th, 2009 in Sweet Links | 1 Comment »

So last night Taylor Swift won an MTV Award for best female music video… But instead of keeping his douche mouth shut, Kanye West decides to get up in the middle of Taylor’s acceptance speech and tell everyone what he actually thought.

“Now Taylor I’m going to let you finish but …” Obviously not you douche.
“… I just have to say that Beyonce’s music video is the best that’s ever been.” … Good thing you got that off your chest, douche.

Good for Beyonce to bring up Taylor Swift once she won an award later that night. The video is currently working above and I have another one linked after the break, Just in case the one above gets pulled down. Seems Viacom has been taking these down from YouTube quite quickly. If they are both taken down, you can always just search for new videos too…

Too much time on his hands: Stan Munro’s Toothpick city

toothpick1

What happens when your wife leaves you and you get fired from your cival engineering job? Well chances are you already have a bajillion toothpicks in your basement, because lets face it… who doesn’t? So you could put all that time and toothpicks to use and come up with a new hobby. Toothpick city building sounds like a good choice! Although my story isn’t very likely to be Stan Munro’s story, he’s still found the time to use those bajillion toothpicks to build a city. He’s got plenty of the recognizable buildings from around the world too. Very impressive Stan. Full collection and a link back to the original set after the break.

Total Death from above… Volcano from space

Friday September 11th, 2009 in Sweet Links | No comments »

volcano

This is a screenshot of a video taken from the ISS (That’s International Space Station, not Imperial Star Ship… you treky!) of volcano Sarychev Peak which is in Matua. The 5 mile high plume of smoke was so hot that it practically melted away the surrounding cloud giving the astronauts perfect view of the eruption. I know its only 8 seconds long but it’s totally worth watching a few times… You’ll have to head over to Gizmodo’s site to see the video though, so check the link below.

Not as wet as it seems: Choir Sings Raining Down in Africa

Wednesday September 9th, 2009 in Sweet Links | No comments »

This is a video of a choir who performs a song that should definitely make it’s way into RockBand. Oooooh yeah! Especially if it was this version with beat boxing and hand made rain. I’d pay 200 Microsoft points on that!
