Movie Review: The Avengers

Wednesday May 9th, 2012 in TV/Cinema/Music | No comments »

Since the Avengers comic book first debuted almost 50 years ago, this movie has been begging producers to make it. Take the best of the Marvel universe and throw them together haphazardly to fight as a team against the invading armies of a Demigod. Greaaat… This sounds plausible!</sarcasim> The good news is that this still takes place in the same universe that we’ve been introduced to in the origin movies for the characters. That being said, such things like portals opening to another dimension, or rocket powered hover suits are not such a stretch for the mind. Happy StarWars Day; Correct Viewing Order of the Saga.

Friday May 4th, 2012 in TV/Cinema/Music | No comments »

Today is StarWars day, and therefore I am obligated to say: “May the fourth be with you!”
Recently we received word of an article that suggests a new viewing order of the Star-Wars saga. Now before you jump in and start talking like there is only one correct answer, check out the reasons why the author suggests the order he does in the link below. In short there are 3 generally accepted viewing orders for watching the movies:

  1. Release Order (4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3)
  2. Episodic Order (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
  3. Ernst Rister Order (4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6)

However, the author of this article has suggested a new viewing order dubbed The Machete Order (4, 5, 2, 3, 6. +1). He provides clear examples and reasons as to why cutting episode one from the viewing order helps story direction, character development and saga flow. He makes a pretty strong case for the order too, showing examples of events that happen in the story in order to support his argument. I think the next time I have someone to introduce to the saga, I’ll sit them down and watch it in this order for sure! Check out his supporting arguments in this link:

Movie Review: The Hunger Games

Thursday April 12th, 2012 in TV/Cinema/Music | No comments »

The Hunger Games takes place in a nation known as Panem after a great civil war, which consists of a wealthy Capitol and twelve surrounding districts. Annually, as not to forget the great loss of life sustained during the war, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected by annual lottery. They participate in the Hunger Games, an event in which the participants (or “tributes”) must fight in an outdoor arena controlled by the Capitol, until only one remains alive. The movie follows 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12 who volunteers for the 74th annual Hunger Games in place of her younger sister. Also selected from District 12 is Peeta Mellark. Hit the jump to read the full review of this movie.

Movie Review: 21 Jump Street

Monday March 19th, 2012 in TV/Cinema/Music | No comments »

I admit when I first heard that 21 Jump Street was being made into a movie I wasn’t too excited. I thought “meh. So there is going to be another T.V show made into a mediocre movie, why should I choose to see this movie in theatres when I can just rent it later?”  Well, for one thing this movie took a comedic route instead of a dramatic one, avoiding all the cliché story lines that would have been borrowed from the original cop drama.  Read the rest of this entry »

Now that I have seen this movie twice, I think I can actually say I fully understand this brain twister of a movie to its fullest. Unless you’ve seen this movie at least twice I’m not sure that you’ve seen all that you really could see. Hit the jump for my full review and then my take on a few points within the movie.

Awesome Idea… must watch Jimmy Kimmel tonight!

Tuesday June 22nd, 2010 in Sweet Links, TV/Cinema/Music | No comments »

Seems there was a power outage at the Jimmy Kimmel taping of tonight’s live show… wait did I just type that? Taping of a Live show? hrrumpf. there’s a thinker. But anyway to the point of the entry! When they realized that they couldn’t get the show back up in time to record, they went to an alternate solution. Record the entire thing via webcam on Jimmy’s MacBook… I hope they are getting a nice cheque from Mr. Jobs later this week for the advertising they are giving Apple on this one! Tonight show features guests Seth Rogen, John Henson, and Dierks Bentley. So it’ll be the Jimmy Kimmel Live you’ve come to mostly ignore, only with a slower frame rate. Sweet. Don’t miss it!

Movie Review: Prince of Persia – The Sands of Time

Friday June 18th, 2010 in TV/Cinema/Music | 1 Comment »

First off let me state that I haven’t played any of the Prince of Persia games since the original side scrolling edition released in 1989. I do however quite enjoy the Assassin’s Creed games also created by Ubisoft. Now with that in mind, click the jump to read my full review of why I enjoyed this movie as much as I did.
