Not Cute: iPhone Robot

Thursday July 30th, 2009 in Sweet Links | No comments »

Yep the Japanese are at it again. This time they thought it would be sweet to build a robot out of an iPhone 3GS and then program the little bastard to do things… LIKE LEARN! (scroll to 0:43)
Am I seriously not getting through to people? I guess the good thing is that this robot couldn’t sneak up on you because its servo’s are louder than a heard of giraffes in a wood-chipper! The best part is that they use an iPhone to control the damn thing. Even if this single robot wasn’t smart enough to attack people, then a different robot could control every iPhone robot that exists! Prepare for the iPhone robot army of doom if this ever gets beyond prototype! :(

Thanks to blueviva for the heads up on this one, who I really hope isn’t a robot just playing me…

Brainwash-alishious: Birdy Nam Nam…

*monotone voice* I have no idea what this is, or why I couldn’t look away. What I do know is that you should also watch it. You see I have been wrong all this time in thinking that Robots controlling us is wrong. More importantly though, our new masters will be kind. We should all obey. I denounce my hate for robots… yes, the robots will be just and fair with their judgement.

Enough to make Asimov roll over in his grave.

death-by-robot

Asimov is dead right? I know about his Laws of Robotics, but I don’t know when he wrote them… meh. Apparently though, scientists are starting to read the blogosphere and are hearing our cries for less robotic intelligence and more killing of the robots!

Impressed and alarmed by advances in artificial intelligence, a group of computer scientists is debating whether there should be limits on research that might lead to loss of human control over computer-based systems that carry a growing share of society’s workload, from waging war to chatting with customers on the phone.

they agreed that robots that can kill autonomously are either already here or will be soon.

AHhhhhh!hhh!!!11one

Followup: The Human Powered Robot wont Eat Humans…

In a truly shocking moronic turn of events, the company that is responsible for creating the organically powered robot has issued a statement to the public:

“We completely understand the publics concern about futuristic robots feeding on the human population, but that is not our mission,” said Harry Schoell, CEO of Cyclone Power Technologies.

Oh whew… now I’m convinced. Wait, no I am not! Just because you tell me it’s not your mission, doesn’t mean that it can’t happen. Might I remind you of the Manhattan project or the invention of Penicillin? Neither really had it in their mission to develop what they did… well, maybe the Manhattan project did, but shhh. Point is: unless you make it your mission to program the robots with Asimov’s Laws of robotics, then it’ll turn on us! I see no evidence that you are! *glare*

No Sympathy: Japan Lay Offs, Now Include Robots

According to the New York Times, Japan is now forced to lay off some of their robot workers. How sad eh? Trick Quesiton: It’s not sad at all… Lets all rejoice!

Tighter finances are injecting a dose of reality into some of Japan’s more fantastic projects — like pet robots and cyborg receptionists — that could cramp innovation long after the economy recovers.

Recession never sounded so good!

Amusing: Robot Name Generator

Are you as worried about the Robot-Apocolypse as I am? Plan on telling the robot overlords that you are actually a robot as well, sent back in time from the future … which is why you appear to be human? Me too… But one thing I hand’t concidered is the name that I would undoubtdly be asked for. And not my human name, but my robot name! Good thing I had this site sent to me though! Now I know…

Robots powered by consuming organics, AND IT HAS A CHAINSAW!

Check out the screenshot above for the diagram of our future overlords. It appears that the military really doesn’t have any intellegence afterall. They’ve gone and designed a robot equiped with such ‘tools’ as a chain saw, combustables, a turret and something called ‘ramp for packbots’ (Which can only be interpretted as “room for minions”). Sure thats all fine and dandy until you find out that it powers itself by eating organic material…

They call it fuel versatility, as gasoline, diesel, and solar power may also be used if available, yet we’ll offer no prizes for predicting which energy source these chainsaw-equipped robots will prefer.

umm… what? It looks like edward sissorhands on wheels, and you want to power it with flesh?!

The stuff of my nightmares: Superbot

Am I the only one that is aware of the future? Am I the only one that is stock piling weapons and amunition in my desk for the coming robot-apocolypse?! Seriously I dont think im getting through to anyone else!

Such self-configuring robots have existed in the world of academic labs for some years now. Last year, a research group at the University of Pennsylvania caught attention with their walking modular robot that slowly reassembled itself after being kicked apart.

Several U.S. military branches and government agencies besides NASA have also shown interest in the idea of shape-shifting, self-repairing robots.

umm… excuse me while I go change my pants.
